SAHAJ DHYAN (SPONTANEOUS MEDITATION)

• Introduction

Spontaneous Meditation (sahaj dhyan) is the perhaps the main-ie. most practical-gift that the HARI OM TATSAT JAI GURU DATTA mahamantra bestows on anyone who sincerely chants it.

After chanting this mantra for 15 minutes out loud by yourself or in a group, then sit quietly with eyes closed. The chanting has already established the conditions for Spontaneous Meditation (sahaj dhyan), so that there is nothing you need do to be in the state of meditation. The big question about meditation is How do I meditate? Here, there is no 'how': The meditation happens naturally and automatically-even from the first experience, even if you have never before tried to meditate. But there is no trying here-just sitting with eyes closed, belt loosened, back straight and absorbing what the chant has already created.

Spontaneous Meditation (sahaj dhyan) - Benefits

The goal of this meditation is Peace, is Fulfillment, is Self-Realization. To arrive at the goal, one must necessarily go on the journey of purification, in which all that inhibits wisdom and the flow of consciousness is slowly, slowly yet most profoundly dissolved, cleaned, eradicated.

There has been a good amount of scientific research done on people who meditate. The results quite conclusively demonstrate greater self-confidence, better sleep, higher quality of relationships in all arenas of one's life, more energy and also more ease, and higher job satisfaction and ability to perform with less stress-to name but a few parameters of benefit. The mind and emotions come into balance, as do our motor functions and perceptions. Thus, someone who meditates generally becomes more integrated, at home with him or herself, better able to focus and to relax in whatever circumstance one finds oneself. Intelligence grows and life changes for the better, but slowly enough that the shifts toward better quality of living seem to happen so naturally as to barely be noticed. Harmony grows on all levels, but so does the ability to be oneself and to enter into the experiences of every arena of life.

Students notice their ability to focus improves. Business people notice that their work is accomplished more effectively and efficiently and without the usual hassles. Married couples notice that their relationships deepen, grow more even yet richer in the process. Health can improve, in some cases drastically, and psychic equilibrium is more available.
'Bapu' invites any scientific investigation of the effects of sahaj dhyan.

Spontaneous Meditation (sahaj dhyan) - Experiences

On the way to the goal, this meditation following the chant (dhun) or jaapa of the HARI OM TATSAT JAI GURU DATTA mahamantra, many experiences occur. Even though the Source of this meditation is beyond form and the goal of this meditation is beyond time and space, there are important experiences that are necessary to boost self-confidence and faith, to heal multi-layered injuries, and to confirm one's spiritual progress.

Experiences in sahaj dhyan will vary from person to person. Not every sadhak (one who does sadhana-spiritual practice) will have every experience, just as some travelers go by bicycle or motorbike, while others take a bus or train, and still others fly by jet. Therefore, experiences in meditation will be unique.
During sahaj dhyan, one can feel heavy in the head, as if wearing a helmet of energy.

Or one can experience lots of energy in the body, especially along the spine.
Or one can see colors, or visions of one's Diety or Guru or family or friends.
Or one can have kriyas-movements, even spontaneous asanas (yogic postures) or pranayamas (yogic breathing), internal and/or external caused by the subtle flow of the kundalini shakti.

One might weep or laugh, feel alert or sleepy, experience stiffness or bliss. All experiences are the result of the grace of Sadguru, and it is best to accept whatever happens in that flavor.
