" HARI OM TATSAT JAI GURU DATTA" mantra

Mahamantra - Meaning

The entire Creation came into being via the organizing power of mantra, according to all the scriptures. Therefore, since the Cosmos was created by mantra, human beings can be recreated by mantra. A mantra is a word, or group of words, which has beneficial effects on all levels of life. Such words of power are transformative in nature. Rather than being translated into 'meaning', Mantras are best understood as 'being' the Source of their power and benefit. So the mantra HARI OM TATSAT JAI GURU DATTA is Datta! A mantra is like the ocean in a bottle, such that this mahamantra, this great mantra given by Lord Dattatreya to 'Bapu' in 1975, contains everything.

Yet the intellect, the maker of meaning, wants some satisfaction. And, while there are books on individual mantras, we can assign a descriptor to each of the mantras. HARI refers to all the love and consciousness that is embodied in Creation. OM in a single syllable signifies the origin, continuation and finale of all that exists. TATSAT, literally, means 'That (omnipresent) Truth.' This is the first phrase of this mahamantra, which constitutes its blessing. The second phrase begins with the salutation JAI, signifying 'glory' or 'victory'. GURU is a familiar word whose two syllables refer to 'darkness' and 'light', such that a Guru is someone who can transform darkness (ignorance) into light (knowledge). And DATTA is Lord Dattatreya , Sadguru, the Guru of Gurus, the Essence of all the wisdom that has ever been shared anywhere. DATTA also refers to one who gives away everything, who freely imparts knowledge.

When 'Bapu' met Sadguru and was given a boon for all of humanity, he was presented with this this mahamantra, which was being sung by all the Siddhas, who are the perfected guardians of all the various spirituo-religious traditions on our planet. So HARI OM TATSAT JAI GURU DATTA is their practice, is the spirtual practice (sadhana) which the Siddhas constantly perform.

·Mahamantra-Gifts

This HARI OM TATSAT JAI GURU DATTA mahamantra was given " For all of humanity as the most powerful and efficacious of spiritual tools-precisely for these times of challenge and change that are currently shaking the foundations of our world.
• To surround with great protection anyone or group who chants this mantra.
•With the promise that the Siddhas would accompany this mantra wherever it is being sincerely used.
•To quickly yet evening and safely enliven the skakti, the serpent power (kundalini) lying dormant at the base of the spine.
• That chanting it (dhun) would naturally and automatically lead to Spontaneous Meditation (sahaj dhyan).

" That its regular and sincere practice becomes Sahaj Yoga, Spontaneous Yoga in which whatever asanas, pranayamas, books, teachers, dreams, experiences and initiations that is required for the fulfillment the unique journey for each of us will naturally and automatically find us, that we no longer need to scour the spiritual marketplace in search of our next step.
" That it is given freely to all people, no matter their religion, status, nationality or sex-such that no one needs to change his or her belief system to enjoy the significant upliftment that naturally accompanies this mahamantra.

·Mahamantra-Use

To enjoy the benefits of HARI OM TATSAT JAI GURU DATTA, you can chant it out loud by yourself or in a group. The use of an audiotape or CD also works well. 'Bapu' suggests to chant "as if you were a baby calling for its mother."
It is best to sit comfortably with your back straight, belt loosened and without touching anyone else-so the subtle energies enlivened by this mahamantra can flow without restriction.

The chant (dhun) usually lasts 15 minutes, followed by Spontaneous Meditation (sahaj dhyan), which comes automatically, so there is nothing to do except to sit quietly with eyes closed and thereby absorb what has already been generated by the dhun. Sit for 20-30 minutes, if possible. Be open and go deep, deep.

Another powerful use of this is jaapa. Jappa means the repetition of a Divine Name. When doing jappa, we use a rosary (mala) of 108 beads, (of Rudraksha or Tulsi or Sandalwood or crystal) and repeat HARI OM TATSAT JAI GURU DATTA as quickly as possible without losing clarity for 1 or 3 or 7 or 9 or 13 or 21 or 26 or 52 malas. And it is highly recommended that the mala be used inside a mala bag (gaumulke-literally, 'the mouth of the cow'), which stores the shakti.

The is held in the trough between the thumb and ring finger of the right hand while being 'counted' by the middle finger. The friction of the middle finger moving over the beads generates a subtle heat and light, which constitutes the generation of shakti which, held in the mala bag, is somehow transmitted to the spine. Thus, this practice of jaapa not only encourages but accelerates the unveiling and ever-stronger flow of the kundalini energy, whose job it is to rise through the seven chakras (energy centers of the body), purifying each one. When all seven chakras are pierced and purified by this heretofore latent hidden energy, the work of sadhana (spiritual practice) is fulfilled.

·Mahamantra-Goal

The goal of chanting the HARI OM TATSAT JAI GURU DATTA mahamantra is Self-Realization, which is the constant and direct experience of the Source of Truth, Wisdom, Love and Humility. The goal of this mahamantra is the very goal of the life of every soul.
